Effortless English
では、文法学習はするなと強調していますが、まったく必要ないと言う事ではありません。知識として知っている程度でいい。それに囚われて上手く話せない事の方が問題だと言っています。Do you want to really SPEAK English automatically?

Email ; effortlesslanguage@gmail.com

Xmas with American family

Merry Christmas

少し早いですが、Merry Christmas! :)

By Wikipedia

Christmas is typically the largest annual economic stimulus for many nations. Sales increase dramatically in almost all retail areas and shops introduce new products as people purchase gifts, decorations, and supplies. In the U.S., the "Christmas shopping season" generally begins on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, though many American stores begin selling Christmas items in October and early November.

ELF(2003年の映画)昨年クリスマスにこのDVDを見ました。見た事がありますか? :)

When young Buddy falls into Santa's gift sack on Christmas Eve and is inadvertently transported back to the North Pole, he's raised as a toy-making elf by Santa's helpers. After growin up to be a misfit who never quite fits in, the outsized elf (Will Ferrell) decides to go to Manhattan and find his real dad.

では、Happy Holidays!

1.Night dive
2.Deep dive
3.Peak performance Buoyancy
4.Wreck dive
5.Navigation

American Accent Training

"American Accent Training" is a book and CD set by Ann Cook. You can buy it on Amazon.com. As the title suggests, this is a pronunciation-only system. It is designed for one thing-- to improve your English pronunciation and get you to speak more like an American.

This system has two major strengths. First, it focuses mostly on intonation rather than individual sounds.

Most pronunciation books and CDs focus on the sounds of difficult letters. For example, they spend a lot of time on pronouncing "r" and "l". The result is that students improve these sounds a little, but their overall pronunciation is still terrible.

For most students, INTONATION, not the sounds of letters, is their big problem. Poor intonation is the reason native speakers cannot understand you. Which is why I like American Accent Training-- the program focuses on the most important pronunciation skill.

The second strength of this program is that it is listening based. Surprisingly, many pronunciation programs focus on the EYES instead of the ears. I've seen a lot of books with complicated drawings of the mouth and tongue, for example. All these complicated drawings are useless.

American Accent Training includes 5 CDs, so it is listening focused. And as all Effortless English members know, you learn to speak by listening. You improve speaking with your ears, not your eyes. This is true for pronunciation, as well as fluency, grammar, and vocabulary.

American Accent Training, however, does have one big weakness. It is boring. There are a lot of word lists and sentences to practice, but not of them has any meaning. You spend your time practicing random words and sentences. So, the biggest challenge with this program is finishing it.

I recommend American Accent Training only for students who are advanced and who want to focus all of their energy on pronunciation. If you are very motivated to improve your pronunciation, and can endure some boredom, the program will help you.

For everyone else, I recommend using movies and my english conversation lessons to improve pronunciation. These are much more interesting to use. Simply listen carefully, pause after each sentence, and copy the speaker's pronunciation. Make it a game-- pretend you are an actor!

Good luck with your English learning :)

スピーチ内容;

Buenos Dias.Me llamo Tomoe. Soy de Japón.Antes hablo solo "Hola",pero estudio Español en la Casa Xelajú (学校の名前)con mi maestra puedo hablar mucho.
Asi yo me siento feliz.
Gracias maestra,
Gracias Casa Xelajú.
Qiero Continuar estudiando Español!

Materials & Method Blaine Ray Workshopsより
TPRS is changing the way many teachers go about teaching a foreign language today. Through TPRS teachers are finding they can teach the language holistically without having to teach grammar rules. Grammatical accuracy is taught but not in the traditional way through verb conjugations. Language is learned by understanding messages in the target language. That means language is picked up through comprehensible input. Input is listening and reading that is understood by the learner. We ensure the class is totally comprehensible. Also it must be repetitive and interesting. We teach the class an interesting story that is invented as the teacher asks students repetitive questions.

Before teaching a story or even saying a sentence in the target language we need to establish meaning. We do that by translation or gesture. We mainly use translation since most gestures can have multiple interpretations and therefore the meaning isn’t clear. With translation, the students understand the meaning of the words being taught. Whenever we use a phrase or words students don’t understand, we have to establish meaning again usually by translating on the board.

Now students are ready for storytelling. Here we use the three phrases that are on the board to ask a story. We start out with a problem. A boy/girl needs or wants something. We start asking questions using the phrases. If the phrase is wants to have, we will start asking questions using wants to have. Does the boy want to have an elephant? (Students respond yes or no. The teacher says that is right, the boy wants to have an elephant.) Now the detail has been established. Does the boy want to have an elephant or a gorilla? Does the boy want to have a gorilla? Does the boy want to have an elephant? Who wants to have an elephant? What does the boy want to have? Does the boy want to have an elephant? With this last question we have completed the circle. That is we are back to where we started. This powerful circling technique is used in TPRS to get lots of repetitions. It makes the class interesting because the teacher can answer each question differently. The story develops as the teacher continues to ask more questions. Each new detail adds new interest to the developing story.

A story has 3 locations. Start at the first location and establish a problem. From add another character and other details. If the boy wants a tiger, you can ask for details about the tiger. Where is the tiger from? Is he big or little? What does the tiger do? Does the boy want a tiger from Kenya or Chile ? Does the boy want a small plastic tiger or a big yellow tiger? You could also have a girl who wants a small plastic gorilla from Tokyo . In your questions to the class you would compare the boy to the girl. Who wants a gorilla? What does the girl want? What does the boy want? Who wants a tiger? All of these questions establish details about the story. After you have established many details of the story you will then go to location two. There you will attempt to solve the problem but fail. Finally the story will move to the third location where the story is solved.

Next you will have your students translate and discuss the extended reading of the story. You will now continue going back and forth between storytelling and reading. These stories are found in Mini-Stories for Look, I Can Talk from our catalogue. There is also a Teacher’s Guide for Mini-stories for Look, I Can Talk available from our catalogue. You also can get level two materials. Order Mini-stories for Look, I Can Talk More and the accompanying teacher’s guide from our catalogue. After students have learned all of the mini-stories they will be ready for a chapter in the books Look, I Can Talk and Mini-stories for Look, I Can Talk. In level three there is now a new book that includes the PMS, mini-stories, extended readings and the chapter story all in one new book from our catalogue.

For supplemental reading there are level one and level two novels from our catalogue. These books are available in Spanish, French and German.

For more information you can order the book "Fluency through TPR Storytelling." This book has been out since 1997 and is now in its fourth edition. If you can't make it to a TPRS workshop, this book is the next best thing. The book will show you how to do TPRS at each level. You will learn tricks on making your class interesting as well as how to teach accuracy to your students. This is a great starter book and it is available from our catalogue.

We also have Videos and DVDs that show actual TPRS classrooms. Watch experienced teachers masterfully teach their classes with TPRS.

For third level teachers there is a book called, "Look, I'm Still Talking." This new book has four chapters of advanced stories with advanced grammar. This book has all of the mini-stories, extended readings and chapter stories all in one book. Check out our level three materials from our catalogue and see how interesting these stories are.

The only thing I remember from my junior high Spanish class is the songs. That doesn't happen with TPRS, but songs are still a great addition to our program. My colleague, Gale Mackey, has written songs that go along with the stories in book one and book two. These songs are available only in Spanish but are a great addition to any TPRS teacher. Your students will want to sing more after learning these songs. There is also a tape of irregular Spanish verbs. After your students have sung these songs a few times they will know the major irregular verbs in all the tenses of Spanish. Tapes and CDs can be ordered from our catalogue.

Learning Languages Like Children

今日はEffortless English無料ニュースレター購読者がダウンロードできる「Learning Languages Like Children By Dr. J. Marvin Brown」(この文章はAJによって簡単な英語に書き換えられています)について。

Dr. J. Marvin Brownはこの文章で、子供が外国に移り住んで、その国の言葉をネイティブスピーカーのように話せるようになるのに、大人はなぜ難しいのか?について論じています。

多くの人が疑問に思うことだと思います。子供には特別な能力があって、大人はそれを忘れてしまったか、無くしてしまったのでしょうか?
Dr. J. Marvin Brownによれば、‘not trying to speak’ was the child’s secret、Forced speaking damages adultsと言っています。

;)During the "silent period", students focus only on listening. After 6 - 12 months of intensive listening, students begin to speak spontaneously and naturally-- without effort and without thinking!

Effortless English
「Learning Languages Like Children By Dr. J. Marvin Brown」より抜粋

THREE – PUTTING ALG IN THE CLASSROOM
We look at children who have moved to a new country, and we see them ‘listen, laugh, and stare’.
The child’s secret; ears open, mouths shut, no tests. They become near-native within two years.
Then we look into language classrooms around the world, and we see just the opposite; ears
practically closed (the students use their eyes instead), mouths open, and a lot of tests. Very
few of these students become near-native.

Two things are needed for modern students.
First, they need experiences in the language that are so interesting (fun, exciting, suspenseful,
etc.), that the students forget that a new language is being used.
And second, the students understanding must be high enough to learn - and this means 80-100%
from the very first day!
It takes a lot of work to train teachers to be both interesting and understandable. But it is the
secret to success! Interesting and understandable listening, and a long "silent period", is the key
to speaking like a native.

Interesting and fun lessons

Hi How's it going?Do you enjoy learning Languages?
Language is passion. 语言是热情。靠你的热情!:)

私の夢は、将来リゾート語学学校を創ってみたいと目論んでいる。
リゾート地で、リラックスして英語を学び、学んだ英語を使って、ダイビングやキャンプ等のアウトドアを楽しむのだ。想像しただけで楽しい。Tree houseを創る事も夢見ている。
候補地はタイ(Thailand) 。 ;)

語学学習を楽しもう!
そして、学んだ言葉を使って、何かをしよう!
DO something through other languages. It makes you have more fun and enjoy your life.
人生がより楽しくなるはず! Enjoy your life! 享受人生的乐趣。

The Power of Narrow Reading and Listening

Dr. Stephen Krashen is the top language learning expert in the world. He just published a new paper with Dr. Clara Lee Brown titled, "What is Academic Language Proficiency?"

In the article, Drs. Krashen and Brown discuss the best strategies for learning "academic English". Academic English is basically Advanced English. Its the English you need to succeed in universities and professional jobs.

Academic English is the next step after fluency.

So, how do you learn academic fluency? What does the research show?

1. Narrow Reading and Listening
"The narrow reading strategy is to read texts by one author, which helps ensure comprehension and natural repetition of vocabulary and grammar." (Krashen, 2004b).

Many students believe that they must listen to MANY different speakers and read many different authors. But, in fact, this is a less successful method. Picking just one speaker or writer is much better. Why?

Because speakers and writers naturally repeat many words and phrases. Each speaker has their favorite set of phrases. In speech, they naturally use these many times. By focusing on just one speaker, you will automatically get a lot of repetition of new vocabulary and grammar.

In other words, you will learn English deeply. If you want to learn academic English, you should listen to a speaker who discusses advanced topics. For example, in my level 3. lessons, you hear me discuss many academic-level topics related to culture, politics, human rights, and relationships.

By listening to all of the lessons, you naturally get a lot of repetition of common academic words, phrases, and grammar. You learn these deeply, but you don't need to try to memorize them. You learn deeply and automatically. You learn them effortlessly.

2. Don't Study Word Lists or Grammar Rules
We acquire language and develop literacy by understanding messages, not by consciously learning about language and not by deliberate memorization of rules of grammar and vocabulary (Krashen, 1981, 2003).

This is a very important point. To learn Academic Level English, you do not study grammar rules.... and you do not memorize vocabulary lists. As Dr. Krashen says, these strategies are failures. They are not successful.

To learn Academic Level English, you must listen to and read a lot of academic English-- and you must understand it. This seems simple, right?

The important point is that you MUST understand what you hear and read. How do you do that if the English is difficult? First, you can use interesting and fun lessons that help you understand more difficult articles and speeches.

Second, you can start with easy speeches and books, then slowly find more difficult ones. For example, you start listening to easy audiobooks for children. You pick one writer-speaker and listen to all of their books.

Soon, these will seem easy, so you find some books and audiobooks that are a little more difficult. You keep repeating this process, and within a year, you are reading adult novels.... and listening to adult audiobooks.

Finally, you choose academic level books, magazines, and audiobooks that interest you, and you listen to them everyday.

By following these methods, you will learn Academic English. You will understand Advanced vocabulary and grammar. You will correctly use advanced vocabulary and grammar.

And you will never again study grammar rules and vocabulary lists!

InputとOutput

Hi, What's up!

Hi,Hows going?

今日はTPRS(Total Physical Response Storytelling)について少し紹介したいと思います。
TPR&TPRSの研究を始めて1年ぐらい経ちます。最初はEffortless English でそのメソドを知りました。Blaine Ray によって考案されたもので、 James Asher's Total Physical Response も取り入れられています。
このメソドは文法のみの学習はせず、ストーリーを通して学びます。wikipediaより、

STEP 1: Establish Meaning. This is done primarily by translation from a speakers native language to the target language.

STEP 2: Ask a story. Using a general outline of a story, the instructor asks students to provide specific details. This allows students to make it their own. At the same time a circling technique of asking questions, and repeating phrases results in multiple repetitions of the target structures.

STEP 3: Read and discuss the story, or a different story which contains the grammar structures from STEP 2, but different details.

Ana is a girl with a problem. She has many problems. She has problems with her friends and her family. She's a normal girl, but she has many problems. Ana is fifteen years old. She's not very tall. She has long hair. She has Brown eyes and black hair.

このストーリーだけで、たくさんの質問が可能です。
Is there a girl or boy?
What is the girl's name?
Is her name Susan?
Is her name Susan or Ana?
What is Ana?
Who is a girl?
Does she have a problem or many problems?
Who has problems?
What does Ana have?
So, does she have many problems?
Is Ana a normal girl?
Who is a normal girl?
Does she have one problem?
What is her name?
Does she have brown eyes or blue eyes?
What color are her eyes?
Who has brown eyes?
Etc.......

FLUENCY FAST BEGINNING SPANISHを受けて本当に感動しました!!
まったくゼロのスペイン語が4時間で上記の文の意味が分かるのです。
始めての言語を少し聞いただけでは、理解できないと思っていましたが、TPRSを使えば違います!

そして、何よりも、この4日間毎日4時間の授業が楽しくて仕方がなかった。
毎日とても楽しみで、ストーリーを作るのに参加できるのも大きな楽しみの一つです。

長くなったので、この続きは明日。

FLUENCY FAST BEGINNING SPANISH (curriculum 4)
by Blaine Ray & Karen Rowan

Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to use the target vocabulary, as well as basic introductory vocabulary.
2. Participants will be able to recognize and use vocabulary in the present tense
3. Participants will be able to write 100 words in 10-15 minutes of uninterrupted writing time
4. Students will be able to read and understand MORE in the target language than they were able to when they arrived.
Methods:
Each day participants will be presented with vocabulary and advanced grammatical structures from the thematic unit. Techniques used include TPR (Total Physical Response), TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), songs, long-term memory techniques, acting, storytelling, reading, translation and conversation.
Outcomes:
Outcomes vary by student depending on previous exposure to the language or other languages. Our first goal is that each student leaves the class knowing more Spanish that when he or she arrived. Our second goal is that once the myth has been dispelled that learning a language is difficult, that the student go on to continue learning the language.

What YOU must know about acquiring a language through TPRS in order to be successful:
There is no such thing as a person who isn’t good at learning languages.

Everything you learned in school about how to learn languages was wrong. You were forcing your brain to function in a way it was never designed to. That was not the fault of your brain. (This does not mean everything you were taught was wrong…. You did not learn what your teacher intended to teach.)

The trick to acquiring another language is ridiculously simple:
You must hear a lot of the language and you must completely, entirely, totally, 100% understand what is being said. In fact…. if you’re doing it right… it feels effortless. It feels involuntary.

You must be relaxed and not feel pressured to speak or perform. There’s no need to try to repeat what you hear. Just concentrate on trying to understand. Stop me and ask for translation or to slow down.

Turn off the part of your brain that wants to turn this into work…. wants to memorize… wants to study… wants to analyze…. wants to cram information into the short term memory instead of the long-term memory….

To do that you must:
A. Have fun.

B. Listen. Be aware of when your attention wanders and think of ways that you can contribute details to the story.

C. Stop and signal me whenever you don’t understand even one word.

D. Laugh. It releases endorphins that contribute to long term retention. Plus… it’s supposed to be funny.

G. Take breaks and move around. A little physical movement makes the brain dump feel-good chemicals into the body that also increase long-term memory.

H. Read, read and re-read. As you read you’ll understand more and more. Use the vocab list, but don’t look everything up in a dictionary.

どこに行っても英語...?

Hi !Hows going?
你好!
Hola, ¿cómo está?

To be continue...
